Daniel A. Hillman
Senior Counsel*

Dan Hillman has practiced law in Atlanta since beginning his professional career in 1997. His practice is primarily related to commercial litigation and corporate transactions with an emphasis on business tort, breach of contract, risk management, corporate structure as well as zoning and land use issues.

Dan brings a unique perspective to representing his clients, having practiced with a large, international law firm as well as having served as in-house counsel for one of the largest privately held corporations in the world. He has represented clients in over 20 states handling matters at both the trial and appellate levels. Dan also appreciates that many times the best solution for a client is to help them manage their risk on the front end and avoid the costly litigation that would otherwise result – and he has the experience to help clients effectively manage their legal risks. Dan's experience gives him the skills to handle the most complex legal matters and the ability and understanding to do so in an efficient manner focused on the individual needs of each client no matter how large or small.

Dan graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with majors in philosophy and political science. He then attended the University of Notre Dame Law School where he served as Note Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review.

Prior to joining Tatum Hillman & Powell, LLP, Dan practiced litigation as an associate (1997-2004) and later counsel (2004-2005) with King & Spalding, LLP. He then served as Counsel and later Senior Counsel (2005-2011) with Georgia-Pacific, LLC. In 2011, Dan formed his own solo practice – The Hillman Law Group, LLC – handling litigation, transactional and real estate matters for both individuals and businesses.

Dan is active in community and civic affairs. He currently serves as his neighborhood's representative on the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods. He has been active with the Georgia High School Mock Trial Program, serving as an attorney coach for Grady High School. Dan is an active volunteer for St. Anne's Day School and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School.

Dan was the Editor of the 2001 Edition of the "Georgia Appellate Handbook for Lawyers." He also co-authored "1998 Recent Developments in Georgia Evidence Law" published by the Georgia ICLE.

Dan and his wife have three children. In his spare time he enjoys sports, reading, travel and cooking.
